What is the void, and how do we use it? When you take your opponents kazushi, balance, you do it by relaxation. When you are attacked the opponent will expect to strike, or grab, a solid resistance whether he is using a weapon or not. By your relaxing they encounter no resistance and this will start to upset their balance. As you redirect their force, you can easily lock their bone structure in a cumulative manner that allows your relaxed energy to impact them through the conduit of your arms, hands, legs or body. As long as you are relaxed the energy will flow and the opponent will have no access to its source.
Once you disturb their balance, you can make them somewhat dependent on you for a moment, if you release your knees at just that moment they will be taken by gravity into what, to them, will feel like a sudden hole being opened up. If you look at their eyes they will pop wide at that moment in an instinctual response that will tell you that you have performed correctly, and , they are not simply falling for you,(in practice.) This hole that opens up is gravity. This is the void.
Please come out to River of Life dojo ( www.riveroflifecenter.com ) and we can explore this further. I look forward to seeing you there!
